Conversations for Kids (Spring 2010)
Conversations for Kids is designed to familiarize 3rd, 4th and 5th graders with their public library and introduce them to reading and the writing process. During the last week of April, over 1,300 children and their teachers from the Rogers Public School District participated in interactive Library tours, received writing resource materials, and enjoyed discussions with noted authors Christine Taylor-Butler (Sacred Mountain: Everest) and Ben Mikaelson (Touching Spirit Bear).
2010 Summer Reading Clubs – High School Writing Workshops
This summer, area high school students are engaged in Summer Reading Clubs, and are also participating in workshops entitled Entering the Conversation: 3 Workshops to Improve Your Writing. The classes, held at the RPL and Bentonville Public Library and online in cooperation with Northwest Arkansas Community College, are designed to develop the particular skills necessary for writing a successful entry for the Conversations Essay Contest.
Carol Higgins Clark Master Class with High School Essay Contest Winners
On Friday, Oct. 8, Carol Higgins Clark will hold a creative writing master class with selected high school students and teachers from Benton County. All students eligible to attend Rogers or Bentonville high schools are eligible to compete in the essay contest. Deadline for essay submission is September 3 at noon. Late entries will not be accepted.
Private Reception for Conversations Sponsors and RPL Donors
On Friday evening, Oct. 8, Carol Higgins Clark will meet event sponsors and RPL donors and will sign books.
Carol Higgins Clark Public Breakfast Event
On Oct. 9, Higgins Clark will speak at the special Conversations Breakfast Event at the John Q. Hammons Convention Center. Seating is limited to 600. Tickets are $55 and include breakfast. Individual tickets will go on sale soon and details about ticket sales will be available on the Foundation website in mid-August, www.rplfoundation.org.
